Just What This Doctor Ordered

20 Aug

Just a quick note to everyone.  It’s easy sometimes to get a little lost as both a physician and a blogger.  Long days, long nights, all trying to get people to be healthier by making simple changes in their lives.  Many do not, but the ones that do keep you putting in the hard work.

I came across this post from Nancy at JustStartsWithMonday about her 4 month journey with the Paleo lifestyle.  I remember her post that many months back that she would have to “check into Paleo,” or something to that affect.  Well check in she did!  And just look at her results!!!  This is the kind of stuff that keeps me going.  If you are new to this blog, and wonder if it can work for you…just ask Nancy!  Talk to your doctor, check your labs, come up with a plan, and make a change.  It’s worth it…

Thanks so much for your loyal commitment…it has changed my life. I hope others will be open to at least “checking into Paleo” too. I LOVE it. In fact, I even enjoy cooking now…which I haven’t enjoyed for years.

WLS is and I believe will always be necessary for some patients to achieve their weight loss goals. Many people have so much weight to lose, that a “drastic” measure like WLS just makes perfect sense. After surgery following a Paleo lifestyle is a wonderful way to maximize long term weight loss.

The emotional and genetic side of overeating also cannot be ignored. Some people very well may need a physical barrier to overeating if they are to achieve success longterm. Genetics also must be taken into consideration, although it is a controversial topic, it’s real.

The way I see it is that there are always more than one way to skin a cat. The goal is longterm health, and each person’s road to that health will be different! Thanks for stopping by, would love to hear your thoughts.

Hi Dr. Ernie, Just thought I would send an update on this…I have lost additional weight and now down a total of 20 pounds. I have on occasion “tested the waters” and tried not following Paleo. Each time I return with “Idiot” stamped on my forehead as I know it is the best thing for me. When not following a Paleo lifestyle, I feel sluggish and deal with a lot of arthritic type pain. I try to ignore it and give excuses for its cause, but know deep down exactly why I am feeling the way I do. I will have to probably “hit the wall” a few more times before my forehead ‘idiot’ tattoo can be removed permanently, but feel I am almost there. I feel like I am eating better than I ever have in my life…plus many more daily calories, but still losing weight. It is really an amazing phenomenon to me as I am uncertain why more doctors don’t provide the needed information. Changing an eating style is difficult but have to say that Paleo has been the easiest food change I have ever made. My doctors here have acknowledged that my lab numbers could not have improved so drastically without some miraculous intervention…..even the medically improved ones could not have dropped my cholesterol numbers over a 100 points in such a short time….however, they were only vaguely interested in hearing how I did it. Please, Please, Please, continue what you have started….keeping people healthy by eating Paleo!! Diet pills are not the cure all for weight loss….Paleo is!! Thank you for being an amazing doctor who truly cares about his patients.
